The RT7880T is a PWM Buck-Boost controller possessing the USB Type-C Port Controller (TCPC) Interface for USB Type-C (USB-C) PD applications. This PWM Buck-Boost controller is designed with a peak current-mode control scheme, which is able to deliver a maximal power of 100Watts with the programmable constant-voltage (CV) and constant-current (CC) output. Moreover, in order to support the enabling alternate mode, the RT7880T hereby integrates the Physical Layer of USB PD protocol. Seven (7) GPIO pins are provided for switching in the high-speed multiplixer or other customized functions. Furthermore, the Slave I2C interface, the TCPC command set and the vendor-defined command set (for power and GPIO controls) are also integrated in communication with the USB Type-C Port Manager (TCPM).
The IC features full protections including the inductor peak current limit, the VBUS over-voltage protection (VBUS OVP), the VO under-voltage protection (VO UVP), and the VCONN current limit protection so as to provides an entire protection with the RT7880T inside. Hence, the RT7880T can offer an excellent USB PD solution for a USB PD application with less external components and simple PCB layout.
